About the Author

Major General David E.B. (DEB) Ward was sworn into the Oregon Air National Guard in August of 1967 to become a Redhawk F-102 Fighter Pilot in the 123rd Fighter Intercept Squadron at the Portland Air National Guard Base in Portland. During his career and until his retirement in November 1996, he served as a combat-qualified fighter pilot in the F-102 Delta Dagger, F-101B Voodoo, F-4C Phantom, and F-15A Eagle.
