Join us as we welcome Lisa Young, a Supervisory Conservator at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum! She will discuss preserving the world’s largest and most complete collection of historic spacesuits from the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs.
This Member exclusive presentation will include a brief review of the history, materials and conservation of spacesuits and related materials at NASM. Case studies of spacesuits and related artifacts displayed in the Destination Moon gallery will be highlighted, and new approaches to the display of these artifacts will be discussed. Lessons learned will be considered, as the museum prepares to finalize the design for the remaining galleries at NASM, and the conservation team prepares additional spacesuits for display.
