Join us as we celebrate Opening Day of Art+Flight! A new museum-wide exhibition connecting the region's vibrant art scene with its rich aerospace history.

You will stretch your imagination and creativity as you explore the world of aerospace in a whole new way. Art+Flight officially kicks off with a day full of art-themed activities, demonstrations, talks and more. Enjoy live music throughout the galleries, seed paper making workshops, fun family activities like chalk painting and our classic Weekend Family Workshops.

We can't wait to share this exhibition with you and introduce a group of very talented and diverse artists.

Drawing Workshops hosted by The Pratt Fine Arts Center
Times: 9:00 AM or 12:00 PM (Length: 2-hours)

Learn the basics to jump start your new hobby or maybe fine tune your skills. Pratt Instructor Shruti Ghatak will guide you through some tips, tricks and more. Shruti has a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and a Master of Science specializing in Color Technology. After studying in both science and art, Shruti believes that crossing boundaries sometimes opens up new ways of seeing. Sign-up today, spots are limited! 

Drawing Workshops open to age 18+ only. Reservations are required. Workshop is FREE with Museum admission.

Note: If you sign-up for the 9:00 AM class, you must pre-purchase Museum admission online or make a Museum Member reservation. Please bring proof of purchase/reservation with you to check-in. For the 12:00 PM class, you can purchase admission at the Admission Desk when you arrive.

Artist-in-Residence Open Studio
Time: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Art+Flight Artist-in-Residence Harriet Salmon will be actively working on her art piece for the exhibition in the Red Barn. Be sure to check out her traditional craft weaving techniques.


Seed Paper Workshop with artist Nina Vichayapai
Time: 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Art+Flight artist Nina Vichayapai will teach Museum visitors how to make the seed paper featured in her fabric sculpture I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud. This workshop is drop-in style, no sign-ups required.


Caring for the Seattle-Tacoma Int'l Airport Art Collection
Time: 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM

Have you ever taken a moment to pause and ponder the art you see at the airport? Have you noticed the bronze fish inlay in the floor of Concourse A? Or the two foot square of carpet from the movie Sleepless in Seattle near Concourse N in the Shuttle Train Corridor? Join Senior Project Manager, Tommy Gregory, and Public Art Coordinator, Annabelle Goavec as they walk us through the art featured throughout SeaTac Airport and shares how they select, commission, install and care for the artwork you see. You don't want to miss this!


Family Activities

  • Weekend Family Workshops: Join us for our classic Weekend Family Workshops (11:00 AM and 1:00 PM) as our education team teaches you how to make simple sun prints (cyanotypes) using photo-sensitive paper.
  • Chalk Drawing in the Aviation Pavilion: Join local chalk artist Kami Huynh outdoors in the Aviation Pavilion to make some chalk art.
