Please join volunteer Bob Fishman for a presentation on The Life of Fleet Admiral William Leahy.

As a young Naval officer William Leahy served in the Spanish-American War, the Boxer Rebellion, Philippine Insurrection, Banana Wars, and World War 1. He reached 4 Star rank as a Fleet Commander and Chief of Naval Operations in the 1930s. But it was after his initial retirement from the Navy that he took on his most important role. Recalled to active duty in 1942, he was President Franklin D. Roosevelt's (& later President Truman’s) Chief of Staff and head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during World War II. He became the most influential if least known, of US military leaders from this position. He was the most senior US military officer in World War II, and the first officer in any service branch to be promoted to 5 Star ranking during that conflict.
