Aeronautical Science Pathway (ASP) is a program for high school juniors and seniors who want to become professional pilots or work in drone operations, air traffic control, airport management, airline dispatch, or any other aviation operations management fields. Offered at no cost to you!

All class times are held in person at The Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington. Students must provide their own transportation to the museum.

Program Details:

Grade Level: High school juniors and seniors (as of the start of the school calendar year)
Dates: September through June (Follows the Highline Public Schools' schedule)
Class Times: Monday through Thursday from 3:45 PM to 6:00 PM (with additional 3.5 hours per week of online learning)
Fee: No Cost


Course Credit Per Year

High school: 3.0 credits/year are recorded on a grade report by Puget Sound Skills Center in the Highline School District. A copy of your grade report will then be forwarded to your high school. Your high school is responsible for adding the credits to your official high school transcript.

College: 30 credits/year earned through Green River College (GRC). Students must attend the entire year to be eligible for college credits.

Aeronautical Science Pathway consists of 12 college courses spread across two years, ASP I and ASP II.*

First Semester:

AVIA 112: Aircraft Systems
AVIA 111: Private Pilot Ground School
AVIA 123: Aviation Weather/Meteorology

Second Semester:

AVIA 103: Aviation History and Careers
AVIA 107: Drone Operations
AVIA 210: Aviation and the Law

ASP II:*

First Semester:

AVIA 212: Aviation Safety and Human Factors
AVIA 211: Aerodynamics for Pilots
AVIA 110: Airline Operations

Second Semester:

AVIA 270: Air Traffic Control
AVIA 385: Airport Management, Planning, and Operations
AVIA 275: Airline Dispatch and Operations


A "B" or better earns 5 college credits per course, up to 30 possible college credits per year. *Pre-requisite for ASP II: Successful completion of ASP I OR a Private Pilot Ground School. Note: if you plan on taking Running Start classes in addition to ASP, please contact the ASP Team to determine eligibility.
