Museum Partnership with Kent School District Puts Third Graders at the Front of the Class

June marks the end of the first year of the Museum of Flight’s on-going partnership with Kent School District (KSD) to develop Museum field trip experiences for KSD third-grade students. The 2025-2026 school year partnership has supported eight schools (25 classrooms), and plans are underway to accommodate nine to eighteen schools during the 2026-2027 academic year. Funded in-part by Boeing and 4Culture, the experiences are at no cost to the schools.

Museum Receives State Clean Energy Grant for Expansive Solar Power Installation

A new 3-acre rooftop solar power array will transform The Museum of Flight's environmental footprint. The Museum has been selected by the Washington State Department of Commerce for an award under the 2025 Clean Energy Grants to support the installation of a large‑scale solar power system on the 140,000‑square‑foot roof of the Museum’s Aviation Pavilion. The $1,237,323 award is funded through Washington’s Climate Commitment Act and represents approximately one-third of the $4.02 million project. Installation of the solar arrays and power system will begin in the fall.

Tukwila School District Partners with The Museum of Flight

Through a newly established partnership, The Museum of Flight is partnering with its closest school district, Tukwila School District and its Showalter Middle School, to develop a suite of field trips that introduce sixth and seventh grade students to the Museum with a focus on aerospace careers. “The partnership,” said Showalter Principal Suzanne Rieger, “strengthens school and community connections while expanding student access to meaningful opportunities.” Tukwila School District is a public school district in King County, Wash. with five schools: three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.

A Fireside Chat with YouTube Sensation Xyla Foxlin May 29

On May 29, the Museum’s new aerospace speaker series, Beyond the Horizon, premieres with YouTube sensation Xyla Foxlin. Foxlin is an engineer, pilot and social media content creator whose work at the intersection of engineering and storytelling has reshaped how technical subjects reach mass audiences. The 7 p.m. moderated fireside chat with Foxlin will highlight the creativity, technical skill, and determination that drive hands-on flight projects from idea to launch, and show how curiosity, experimentation, and community help shape new possibilities in aviation and space. DJ Chris Luno Headlines Museum’s “Yuri’s Night” Space Party April 11

North America’s biggest Yuri’s Night space-themed dance party is at The Museum of Flight on April 11 from 6-11p.m. The Museum’s Yuri’s Night is an annual 21+ spectacle transforming its largest gallery into an intergalactic nightclub celebrating real and imagined spaceflight with dynamic DJs, cosplay, cosmic arts and conversations with an astronaut. Face paint artists will be on hand, plus workshops for creating fashionable spacesuits and rave accessories like bracelets and crowns. International DJ sensation Chris Luno will be driving the main stage dance floor, and four-time NASA shuttle astronaut Steve Robinson will start Yuri's Night with conversations in the Space Lounge. North America’s Biggest Yuri’s Night Space Party April 11

Museum’s Education Program Alumni Now Includes an Astronaut

In September NASA selected Pacific Northwest native Lauren Edgar to join the 2025 astronaut candidate class. The 40-year-old Edgar grew up in a small town about 20 miles from The Museum of Flight in Seattle. “I think that my experience at the Museum turned my childhood passion for space exploration into a realistic career path,” said Edgar when she was a Mars Rover driver for NASA ten years ago. Now Edgar joins a growing list of aerospace professionals who earlier found inspiration, knowledge and even scholarships as young students enrolled in education programs at The Museum of Flight.

Grand Opening for The MiG-21 Project World Premiere Art Exhibit June 21

June 21 is Opening Day for the world premier of The MiG-21 Project, a dazzling exhibit of South African artist Ralph Ziman’s 5-year, multidisciplinary project transforming a decommissioned Cold War-era, Soviet-designed MiG-21 fighter jet into a stunning work of art entirely covered in tens of millions of colorful glass beads. The re-imagined jet turns an icon of violence into a symbol of resilience and collaboration, and is the centerpiece of the exhibit, which also includes original Afrofuturistic flight suits and helmets, videos, photographs and artwork created for the Project.

The exhibit opens Saturday, June 21.

Project artist Ralph Ziman and The MiG-21 Project team will be present for interviews and tours of the exhibit. The Museum’s exhibit team and Museum President/CEO Matt Hayes will also be at the preview.
