The Boeing B-47 Stratojet bomber introduced the jet age for the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command! Its swept-wing design made this medium jet bomber as fast and maneuverable as most fighter aircraft of the time. Often referred to as the “Silver Bullet”, its innovative design also created aerodynamic and structural challenges. All subsequent large swept-wing aircraft owe their success to the groundwork laid by the design of the B-47.

This talk by Docent Bill McCutcheon will cover the early designs of the B-47, why Boeing decided on a swept wing, impact of the high-speed wind tunnel, handling characteristics of the plane and its operational life. Registration is not required for this member exclusive event.
