The Museum honors the memory of all astronauts and astronaut candidates who sacrificed their lives while furthering the cause of space exploration, including the lives lost on Apollo 1 and space shuttles STS-51L Challenger and STS-107 Columbia with special displays and video. 

NASA's annual Day of Remembrance is celebrated on the third Thursday of January.
