In the Aviation Pavilion, Interpreters enhance visitors’ understanding of the significant commercial and military aircraft on display with a focus on those that visitors can walk inside by sharing interesting stories and facts and answering questions. They provide engaging, informative, and context-driven narratives to help visitors gain a deeper appreciation for the engineering, technological advancements, and historical significance of these iconic aircraft.
Pavilion Interpreters also provide information regarding the static displays, other aircraft and special exhibits.
Pavilion Interpreters assist in creating a welcoming environment for visitors, while also helping to enforce policy for the safety of our visitors, staff, volunteers, and collection in the Pavilion.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide welcoming, helpful, and friendly on-the-spot customer service to all visitors in the Aviation Pavilion
- Engage with visitors and answer questions regarding the history, engineering, and operational use of each aircraft and artifacts on display. Awareness of current and temporary exhibits and provide directions to access.
- Use storytelling techniques to share fascinating and accurate facts about significant flights, personal stories, or milestones associated with each aircraft. Help visitors understand the historical impact of the aircraft on the aviation industry.
- Facilitate discussions by asking thought-provoking questions and allowing visitors to be able to share their own experiences with aviation.
- Identify other Museum learning resources to share with visitors.
- Ensure the safety and security of visitors and our collections by modeling and informing visitors of our expectations and reporting concerns to Museum staff.

Qualifications
- Energetic, outgoing, and friendly individuals with an enthusiasm and interest in The Museum of Flight
- Desire and excitement for learning and teaching, especially about aerospace and STEM-related topics
- Able to listen and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and ages; ability to explain complex information in an engaging and accessible manner.
- Ability to interact with a wide range of visitors, including aviation enthusiasts, students, families, aviation professionals and novices, etc.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Comfortable working in an outdoor environment
- Prior knowledge of commercial or military aviation history is a plus, but training will be provided.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
