These programs provide a brief history of rockets and discusses Newton's laws of motion as students apply their understanding while engaging in the design and testing of their own rockets.

NOTE: A level, outdoor space for launching rockets, clear from trees and power lines, and additional adult supervision during the activity is required.

Alka Rockets

Students will learn the basic physics involved in launching rockets as well as the fundamental shapes and design of a rocket. Students will design and launch small rockets using Alka-Seltzer as their fuel. All materials provided by The Museum of Flight.

  • Suitable for students in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade
  • Program Length: 1-hour
  • Maximum Group Size: 30 participants

Water Rockets

Students will receive a brief lesson in the history, science, and design principles of rockets. Students will work together in small teams to design and build rockets out of 2-liter plastic bottles that are launched using air pressure and water. All materials are provided by The Museum of Flight.

  • Suitable for students in 3rd to 5th grade
  • Program Length: 1-hour
  • Maximum Group Size: 30 participants

Fee: $200/session


Eggstronauts

Students will receive a brief lesson in the history, science, and design principles of rockets. Students then work together in small teams to design and build rockets out of 2-liter plastic bottles that are launched using air pressure and water. With Eggstronauts, there is an added challenge where students need to design something to protect an 'egg astronaut’ that will be launched with the rocket. All materials are provided by The Museum of Flight.

  • Suitable for students in 6th to 8th grade
  • Program Length: 90-minutes
  • Maximum Group Size: 30 participants

Note: We do not use real eggs with this program. Alternative materials are used to simulate the “eggstronaut."

Fee: $200/session


How to Request

Once you determine which Rocket Science program you wish to book, please fill out the Request Form via the link below. Once your request is received, a staff member will contact you in 3 to 5 business days to confirm your booking details.

These programs are only available April through November.
There is a minimum of two and a maximum of five programs per day/location.

Additional fees may apply for multiple location visits on a single day. Fees may be applied for travel to sites located more than 40 miles from The Museum of Flight.


Please be prepared with alternate options if your preferred dates are full.

How soon can I make my reservation?

Programs must be requested at least two weeks prior to the date(s) you would like to reserve, but sooner is better.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made more than seven days in advance of the scheduled program date are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made within seven days of the program date, including no-shows, are eligible for a refund minus a $50 administrative fee.

When is payment due?

Payment is due at least two weeks prior to your program date(s). Payment can be made over the phone by credit card (preferred) or purchase order (PO).
