The Museum hosts a rare public appearance with one of the most influential persons in NASA’s history, George Abbey, and author Michael Cassutt, whose new Abbey biography, The Astronaut Maker reveals the story behind ambition and power politics at NASA from Apollo to the shuttle. Abbey was the ultimate NASA insider, elusive and controversial, called the Dark Lord, the Godfather, and said to be a Space Age Machiavelli.
Cassutt’s book is the first detailed account of the former Air Force pilot who became a NASA power broker at the highest levels. The conversation between Abbey and Cassutt begins at 2 p.m. and concludes with signings of The Astronaut Maker: How One Mysterious Engineer Ran Human Spaceflight for a Generation. The event will be moderated by aerospace consultant Roger Myers.
