"The Montgolfier Balloon Takes Flight" with Sandy Morton
Saturday, Sept. 5, 2 p.m., William M. Allen Theater
Over two hundred years ago in France, balloons designed by brothers Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier were the first craft to take passengers into the sky. Seattle craftsman and model maker Sandy Morton painstakingly designed and built a 1/10th scale model-seven feet tall-of the Montgolfier's 1783 passenger-carrying balloon. With its deep colors and intricate artwork, Morton's beautiful model is now hanging on display in the Museum lobby. Morton's program will look at the Montgolfier brothers' quest for flight, and how Morton spent 900 hours making his museum-quality model. After the program he will conduct a personal "tip-to-tail" tour of the model balloon.
The 39th Airlift Squadron Panel and Lockheed C-130 Aircraft Tours

The 39th Troop Carrier Squadron has been moving everything from soldiers and celebrities to bodies and ammunition in and out of all sorts of places in every American conflict since World War II. Now renamed the 39th Airlift Squadron, it is one of the few World War II squadrons of any kind that is still active today. In a program at the Museum of Flight on September 12, veteran airlift pilots and crew members will share exciting stories and photos from the Vietnam era to the present. Mission permitting, a 39th Airlift Squadron Lockheed C-130 will be open to the public for tours during Museum hours on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12 - 13 in the Museum parking lot.
Royal Aeronautical Society: "Defying Gravity and the Odds - The Unlikely Story of the Boeing X-32B Joint Strike Fighter"
Tuesday, Sept. 15, 6 p.m., William M. Allen Theater
Dennis O'Donoghue, Vice President of Boeing Company Flight Test, will describe the quest to build the first supersonic, short takeoff and vertical landing, stealth fighter. O'Donoghue will also describe some of the most daunting engineering challenges faced by the team and share what it was like to fly one of most complex and sophisticated experimental air vehicles ever developed.

The Concorde Supersonic Jetliner: 40 Years of History
Saturday, Sept. 19, 2 p.m., William M. Allen Theater
Former British Airways Concorde Captains Peter Duffey and John Hutchinson will share their supersonic experiences during a presentation at the Museum on September 19. The two pilots represent decades at the helm of one of the most exciting airliners in history. In 1975 Duffey was nominated as one of the eight pilots to form the nucleus group to bring Concorde into service with British Airways. He continued to fly the supersonic transports-including the one displayed at The Museum of Flight-until his retirement in 1980. Hutchinson joined the Concorde fleet in 1977. In addition to flying Concordes he was a Concorde Route Check Captain and a British Airways pilot selector until he retired in 1992.
Explorer Lecture: Astronaut Gregory C. Johnson

In May 2009, astronaut and Seattle-native Gregory C. Johnson brought a Museum of Flight logo patch with him on Space Shuttle mission STS-125 to the Hubble Space Telescope. The patch will become a part of the Museum's space collection when Johnson returns it during a public presentation. Johnson will also talk about the mission that extended the life of Hubble for another 5 to 10 years. Admission is $10 general public, and $5 for Museum members.
Hispanic Heritage Month with Senior Curator Dan Hagedorn
Saturday, Sept. 26, 2 p.m., William M. Allen Theater
The Museum pays tribute to the rich legacy of Latin American women pilots and aviation pioneers in a program called "Pilotas y Pioneros," by The Museum of Flight Chief Curator, Dan Hagedorn. Hagedorn is one of the world's experts on the history of aviation in Latin America. This 40-minute, illustrated presentation will feature some well-known as well as some not-so-well-known women.

The Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $14 for adults, $13 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for active military, $7.50 for youth 5 to 17, and free for children under 5.
