NOVEMBER

Family Activity

Bank of America Weekend Family Workshop: Fanciful Rockets

Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25

11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

We will look at some of the beautiful rocket designs artists have created for magazine covers, television and movies - images that have inspired real life rocket design. Then we will make a turkey-rocket fly!

Wells Fargo Free First Thursday

Thursday, Nov. 1

5 to 9 p.m.

Once a month, the Museum stays open late and admission is free! Enjoy the Museum's Great Gallery, Personal Courage Wing, Red Barn, Space Gallery and more from 5 to 9 p.m., courtesy of Wells Fargo. The Museum Store and Wings Café will also remain open for the extended hours on this night.

Northwest Historical Miniatures Gaming Society Exhibition

Saturday, Nov. 3

10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Museum welcomes back the Northwest Historical Miniatures Gaming Society for an exhibition of this fascinating hobby, which combines the challenges of fine model-making and sophisticated strategy game-playing. Several games will be demonstrated at the show. Visitors are encouraged to participate.

Radio-Controlled Model Aviation Exhibition

Sunday, Nov. 4

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Experience the world of flying models as the Marymoor Radio Control Club presents an exhibit of RC aircraft, from small indoor models to large scale models made for competition events. Included are simple models for training, sport models for flying fun and jet models for speed. Club members will be there to answer questions.

NorthWest Scale Modelers Fall "Mini-Display"
Saturday, Nov. 10

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

NorthWest Scale Modelers will present a variety of models of all types in the Great Gallery, right next to the Blackbird spyplane. Experienced modelers will be working on models, demonstrating tools and techniques for the public, and available to answer questions.

 

Special Event 

Grand Opening of Space Shuttle Trainer Exhibit

Saturday, Nov. 10 

10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Museum of Flight is the permanent home to NASA's Space Shuttle Trainer, the world's only example of this full-scale shuttle training facility. The Museum opens this world-class exhibit with a ceremony at 11 a.m., with music and family activities in the Space Gallery and throughout the Museum. Visitors will be among the first to step inside the shuttle's expansive fuselage and see the new spaceflight artifacts populating the towering Charles Simonyi Space Gallery.

Frank Piasecki and Other Polish Aviation Designers

Sunday, Nov. 11, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Polish aviation designers are illuminated in this exhibit organized by the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow. The Museum of Flight is the exclusive Northwest venue for this show, which runs until February 2013.

 

Special Programs

Veterans Day Recognition and Ceremony
Sunday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m.

The Museum recognizes the contributions of America's veterans at the annual Veterans Day Ceremony. Events include The Boeing Employees' Concert Band, Veterans Day ceremony featuring guest speakers, color guard and autograph session. There will also special programs for youth, adults and families. On Veterans Day all U.S. veterans and current U.S. military personnel will be admitted to the Museum free of charge.

 

Panel Presentation

American Fighter Aces Symposium

Sunday, Nov. 11, 2 p.m.

The Museum of Flight is home to the American Fighter Aces Association, founded to recognize the 1,442 combat pilots that have received the special designation of "ace." Join us for this panel of aces and combat pilots who will share their remarkable stories of heroism.

Documentary about the NASA space shuttle program.

 

Family Program

Voyage to Mars: Space Travel for Families

Saturday, Nov. 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Be an astronaut for a day! In this mission to Mars, your group is traveling to the Red Planet to replace a crew of astronauts who have been living there for the past two years. In addition to landing on the Martian surface, the team collects and analyzes geologic samples and launches exploratory probes to the two moons of Mars. The excitement takes place in the Museum's Challenger Learning Center, a facility designed to simulate space missions for large groups using a full-scale mission control center and a spacecraft cabin. Each mission uses hands-on activities engaging participants in teamwork, communication, problem-solving and critical thinking. And it is fun!

Santa's Landing Party

Saturday, Dec. 15 

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A day of holiday events lands at the Museum with the airplane arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus at 10 a.m. The jolly couple will hear childrens' wishes in the Museum until 2 p.m., while the galleries are filled with music and holiday fun.

Bank of America Weekend Family Workshop: Wright Spirit

Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15, 16 

11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

They are the most famous brothers in the history of aviation: Wilbur and Orville Wright, the inventors of the airplane. Learn how they solved the problem of controllable flight. Then make a model of one of their aircraft designs!

Dec. 26 through Dec. 30, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Gliders, flying snowmen, robots or rockets - what will it be? Join us for winter-themed aerospace and aviation activities during the holiday break.

The non-profit Museum of Flight is one of the largest independent air and space museums in the world. The Museum's collection includes more than 150 historically significant air- and spacecraft, as well as the William E. Boeing Red Barn® -- the original manufacturing facility of the Boeing Co. The Airpark includes outdoor displays with the first jet Air Force One, a Concorde airliner, and the first Boeing 747 jumbo jet. The Museum aeronautical library and archival holdings are the largest on the West Coast. The Education Office offers weekend family programs, programs for students and educators, and overnight camps for children. McCormick & Schmick's Wings Café is on site.

 

The Museum of Flight is located at 9404 E. Marginal Way S., Seattle, Exit 158 off Interstate 5 on Boeing Field half-way between downtown Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport. The Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is id="mce_marker"7 for adults, id="mce_marker"4 for seniors 65 and older, id="mce_marker"3 for active military, $9 for youth 5 to 17, and free for children under 5.
