New Exhibit Honors Great Polish Aviation Designers

Nov. 11 opening for show from the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow

SEATTLE, Nov. 1, 2012--On Sunday, Nov. 11,  

The Museum of Flight opens a temporary exhibit in conjunction with the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow, "Frank Piasecki and Other Polish Aviation Designers." The exhibit explores the careers of 10 Polish and Polish-American engineers and their tremendous contributions to aviation technology. The exhibit runs through January 2013.

Frank Piasecki (1919-2008) was a first-generation Polish-American who helped found the helicopter industry in the United States. In addition to Piasecki, the Museum's exhibit looks at nine Polish engineers who made major contributions to global aviation. Polish aviation flourished before the outbreak of World War II. After the War, many Polish engineers went to the West, where they played key roles in the designs of the first jetliner - the Comet, the supersonic Concorde, Sikorsky and Boeing helicopters, the F-117 stealth fighter and even the space shuttle.

The non-profit Museum of Flight is one of the largest independent air and space museums in the world. The Museum of Flight is located at 9404 E. Marginal Way S., Seattle, Exit 158 off Interstate 5 on Boeing Field half-way between downtown Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport.
