"How Birds Fly" exhibit in partnership with Burke Museum, opens April 11

SEATTLE, March 31, 2015--Aviation's feathered friends are the subjects of the Museum's new, temporary exhibit, How Birds Fly, opening April 11. The exhibit encapsulates the beauty, diversity and wonder of bird flight in relation to aviation. It was developed from a colorful blending of Museum of Flight aeronautical expertise in partnership with the ornithological resources of the Burke Museum.

The exhibit combines bird skeletons, feathers and wings from the Burke, with
stunning photographs by guest curator Dr. Peter Cavanagh. Cavanagh is a birder, photographer and University of Washington biomechanist. Cavanagh will give a public lecture at the exhibit on April 11 at 2 p.m.

How Birds Fly explores bird evolution, anatomy, and behavior, as well as the influence birds have had on human flight from the designs of Leonardo da Vinci and the Wright brothers, to today's aerospace engineers. Exhibit closes Sept. 7.
