Project Welcome Home
The Project Welcome Home campaign (2017-2019) raised funds to support the restoration of the Museum's B-52G and was eventually transported and installed as the centerpiece in a new Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park that opened in May 2019.
One of The Museum of Flight’s largest and most iconic aircraft, the Boeing B-52G Stratofortress 59-2584 Midnight Express, has been lost in plain sight for the past 28 years. This veteran warbird was restored to its former glory and has a new home in a place of honor on the Museum’s campus behind the Aviation Pavilion. Visitors can reflect upon the B-52 and the nearly 8,000 other U.S. military aircraft lost during Vietnam.
In addition to the veteran B-52, the Memorial Park also features a statue depicting a returning aviator and five military branch flags to honor the veterans who served in all military branches between 1955 and 1975.
