Museum Hosts Free Viewing Party for Last Space Shuttle Launch July 8

Museum will open early to show live coverage of historic liftoff on big screen

SEATTLE, July 1, 2011--On July 8, The Museum of Flight will open earlier than usual - 8 a.m. - to allow the public to watch live NASA TV coverage of the final, historic space shuttle launch on the big screen in the Museum's William M. Allen Theater. Weather permitting, the space shuttle Atlantis (STS-135) is scheduled to launch at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Fla., on Friday, July 8 at 8:26 a.m. PDT. This will be the last liftoff of NASA's 30-year-old space shuttle program. The NASA TV broadcast will be shown from 8 to 9 a.m., or until 15 minutes after the launch if there are delays in the liftoff. Admission to the theater is free for this event, separate admission required to enter Museum galleries.

The Museum of Flight is located at 9404 E. Marginal Way S., Seattle, Exit 158 off Interstate 5 on Boeing Field half-way between downtown Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport. The Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $16 for adults, $14 for seniors 65 and older, $13 for active military, $9 for youth 5 to 17, and free for children under 5.
