Soaring Expo 2009 (Day 1)
Time: Saturday, March 21, 2009 - 10:00am - 5:00pm
Event Type: Exhibit
Location: Side Gallery
Come to the Soaring Exposition on March 21 and 22 at the Museum of Flight and take a look at some full-size gliders and radio controlled gliders and sailplanes. A number of lectures, movies and presentations will give you some insight into sailplane and radio-controlled gliders development. Representatives of local soaring and RC glider clubs will be there to explain the local soaring scene and to answer any questions you may have about soaring or RC and they may get you involved in the fascinating world of powerless flight.
At 2:00 pm in the William Allen Theater, Danny Howell will provide an update on the status and performance of the LightHawk. He will discuss the difficult design challenges and manufacturing advances required to produce a glider capable of exploiting microlift, a very weak atmospheric lift condition, hardly usable for conventional sailplanes. The category of Microlift Glider was adopted for inclusion in the FAI Gliding Sporting Code in October, 2004.
Program is Free with Museum Admission or with Membership.
