When:Sunday, July 12, 2015 - 2:00pm
Location:William M. Allen Theater
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Labs’ Steve Lee will give an exciting multimedia lecture with the latest images, science and engineering updates from the Mars Curiosity Mission. Don’t miss him narrate the infamous Entry, Descent and Landing (EDL) 7 Minutes of Terror footage!
Lee successfully landed MSL Curiosity rover on Mars using the revolutionary "Skycrane" landing technique on August 5, 2012. He served as MSL Guidance, Navigation, and Control System (GN&C) subsystem manger and led the team of engineers to design, develop, fabricate/code, integrate, test and operate control system for all mission phases including cruise, Entry, Descent, and Landing (EDL), and surface. He was responsible for the delivery of 120 separate hardware and software elements. Currently the lead for Curiosity strategic mission planning, Lee previously, managed JPL avionics partnership with Lockheed Martin for development of C&DH, EPS, GN&C, Flight Software, and Simulation/Test Software subsystems for the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO).
