On Sunday, Oct. 9, visitors to The Museum of Flight can become some of the first people anywhere to see Boeing’s 787 up-close. The company’s first 787 Dreamliner will be on free, public display in the Museum’s parking lot from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. “Dreamliner Day” programs at the Museum include a lecture by a 787 test pilot, exterior tours of the aircraft, 787 flight simulators and Dreamliner Family Workshops. Visitors with admission to the Museum will have exclusive, up-close viewing privileges of the aircraft. The interior of the plane will not be open to the public. Admission to the Dreamliner lecture is free with admission to the Museum. Museum admission is free to Boeing employees and their families.
Dreamliner Day Schedule
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
787 Number One on view in the Museum parking lot. Free. Up-close viewing with Museum admission. Museum visitors can create 787 trips using flight simulators in the Museum’s Aviation Learning Center. Free with admission to the Museum.
11 a.m.
Dreamliner Family Workshop. In this “make and take” activity, children can design their own 787 interiors on a paper model of the airplane. Free with admission to the Museum. “Tip-to-Tail Tour” of 787. During this close-up tour of the plane’s exterior, museum docents show what makes the 787 unique. Free with admission to the Museum.
1 p.m.
Dreamliner Family Workshop. In this “make and take” activity, children can design their own 787 interiors on a paper model of the airplane. Free with admission to the Museum.
1:30 p.m.
Lecture: Dreamliner Program Overview with Boeing Chief Pilot Randy Neville
A pilot who flew the plane on its historic first flight, Boeing Chief Pilot Randy Neville, will talk about the Dreamliner program during a 1:30 p.m. presentation at the Museum. Neville will provide an overview of the Dreamliner and its test flights. Since the maiden flight on Dec. 15, 2009, specially outfitted 787s have been actively flying in an extensive and demanding flight program to test the new technologies developed for Dreamliner. The 787 has since achieved FAA certification, and deliveries of new 787 airliners recently began on Sept. 26, 2011.
