Stories of Courage: Author Sarah Rickman and the WASPS

Sarah Rickman

Time: Saturday, August 23, 2014 - 2:00pm - 3:30pm

Event Type: Public Program

Location: William M. Allen Theater

The Museum of Flight welcomes author Sarah Rickman for a special program in our Stories of Courage series.

Sarah Byrn Rickman has been researching the WASP and following their activities for 22 years. In that time, she has published four books about these women who flew for the U.S. Army in WWII.
Now Sarah has a new book — her second WASP novel, Flight to Destiny. The story won the Greyden Press Best Novel Competition in 2013, and was published this spring. She has brought it with her to the Museum of Flight and hopes you will take a look.
Sarah’s talk will focus on the work of the Washington State WASP and how their stories enhanced the story of the WASP as a whole. A special treat will be the showing of a 10-minute documentary film about Oroville, Washington, native Dorothy Scott — one of the 38 WASP who died in service in World War II. Dorothy’s story has been lost to us since 1943, but Sarah has written her biography based on her letters home during the war. Dorothy’s biography — Lost WASP, Dorothy Scott — will be released later this year.
Sarah is a former journalist who now serves as a WASP oral historian and the editor of the WASP Newsletter for the WASP Archives at Texas Woman’s University.

Following the program, Sarah will be on hand to sign copies of her work.
