April 18th is one of the most significant days in the history of the United States – the 77th anniversary of a turning point in World War Two.

It was on this day in 1942 that Col. James Doolittle led eighty brave men in 16 B-25 Mitchell bombers from the deck of USS Hornet (CV-8) to bomb cities in Japan. This was the first action taken by the United States in response to the attacks on Pearl Harbor on December 7th of 1941.

Known forever as the Doolittle Raiders, they struck a blow for the United States that boosted the morale of the whole country and changed the defense strategy of the Japanese nation. This daring mission set the tone for the combined US military throughout World War Two.

Join us for a short presentation honoring those who participated and those who followed their example.

11:30 AM on April 18 in the Murdock Theater.
