SEATTLE, May 26, 2010--The American Heroes Air Show lands at The Museum of Flight Saturday, June 19 for Seattle's largest gathering of helicopters for public display. Held in several locations around the U.S., the American Heroes Air Show is the nation's premier helicopter fly-in event designed to profile aviation's dynamic role in law enforcement, public safety, communications, and search and rescue, as well as homeland security and national defense. The event also features public safety job recruiting fair. Free to the public, the family-focused event takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in The Museum of Flight parking lot. Before 9 a.m., visitors can see the helicopters land at the Museum ramp.
The American Heroes Air Show brings helicopters and the people who operate them to the Museum to give the public a hands-on experience with the tools of their trade. People of all ages are welcome to come get up close and personal with helicopters from Airlift Northwest, the U.S. Army, King County Sheriff, Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and King 5 News.
The CODE 3 Recruitment Fair provides information about job opportunities with the military, U.S. Marshals, TSA, Washington State Police, King County Sheriff, Seattle Police, FBI, Seattle Fire Department and many more. Most participants in the fair will have vehicles and other objects of their trade to share with attendees along with career information.
Helicopter Lecture at 2 p.m.
In conjunction with the American Heroes Airshow at the Museum on Saturday, June 19, aviation author and Seattle resident Jay Spenser will give an illustrated presentation on the history of the "whirlybirds." The program blends Spenser's insights and humor with superb imagery to trace rotary-wing flight's earlier days, including key pioneers, happenings, and technological emergences. Spenser will field audience questions and sign books following the presentation. The program is in the William M. Allen Theater at 2 p.m. and is free with Museum admission.
