Bank of America Weekend Family Workshop: Fanciful Rockets
Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, 27, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
We will look at some of the beautiful rocket designs artists have created for magazine covers, television and movies - images that have inspired real life rocket design. Then we will make a star cruiser space ship to travel to distant stars!

Cal Rodgers & The Vin Fiz: Flying Cross Country with your Wife, Mother and Navy in 1911
Aviation Historian and Author Mike Lavelle
Saturday, Nov. 5, 2 p.m.
Aviation historian Mike Lavelle will present the sometimes-madcap story of the first flight across the United States. In 1911 aviator Cal Rodgers tried to win the $50,000 prize offered by publisher William Randolph Hearst to the first pilot to fly across the U.S. within 30 days. Rodgers failed to win the prize, but he completed an epic, 4,000-mile journey crisscrossing the country in 49 days and 82 flying hours. Sitting bravely on the leading edge of his Wright EX Flyer named Vin Fiz, Rodgers was involved in 16 accidents resulting in broken legs, a concussion and a twisted spine. With 69 planned and unplanned landings en-route, Rodgers introduced the age of the flying machine to thousands of average Americans. Lavelle's presentation is a fast-moving summary of the challenges, misfortunes and triumphs as Rodgers completed what was considered an impossible feat at the time.
Aviation historian and author, Mike Lavelle, is the Director of Public Programs at The Museum of Flight. His is also a certified flight instructor and aircraft mechanic, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society of Great Britain. Lavelle has made presentations to universities, museums and aviation groups on topics ranging from early aviation to the jet age.
Special Event
Veterans Day Concerts and Ceremony
Friday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Museum recognizes the contributions of America's veterans at the annual Veterans Day Ceremony. The events begin on the eleventh hour of eleventh day of the eleventh month with chamber music performed by the internationally touring bass and cello duo, Bottom Line Duo. The Boeing Employees' Concert Band will perform patriotic music from noon to 1 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. ceremony featuring Museum officials, City of Tukwila Mayor Jim Haggerton, City of Tukwila Councilmembers, distinguished veterans, and the Civil Air Patrol Overlake Squadron color guard. There will also be special programs for youth, adults and families. On Veterans Day, all U.S. veterans and current U.S. military personnel will be admitted to the Museum free of charge.

"Beauty and Duty" - A Tribute to Women in Uniform
Friday, Nov. 11, 2 p.m.
Museum of Flight Living History performer Alice Miller will present authentic women's military uniforms from World War I to Vietnam. She will speak about their histories, origins and the women who wore them so proudly.

Northwest Historical Miniatures Gaming Exhibition
Saturday, Nov. 12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Museum welcomes back the Northwest Historical Miniatures Gaming Society for an exhibition of their fascinating hobby, which combines the challenges of fine model-making and sophisticated strategy game-playing. Several games will be demonstrated at the show; in addition to games featuring aerial combat, there will be a 1930s air racing game, and tables for earthbound battles. Visitors are encouraged to participate. The society members will be on hand to answer questions, while hundreds of models will be on display.

American Fighter Aces Association Symposium
Saturday, Nov. 12, 2 p.m.
The Museum of Flight is the home of the American Fighter Aces Association, founded to recognize the 1,442 combat pilots that received a special distinction of becoming an ace by destroying five or more hostile aircraft. The Association is honored to sponsor the Museum's series of panel discussions with aces and combat pilots.
Special Event
Jumbo Jet Celebration with the 747 Prototype
Saturday, Nov. 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Museum is home to one of the most significant airplanes in history - the Boeing 747 prototype. Normally closed to the public, the aircraft will be open to a limited number of Museum members from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The celebration inside of the Museum includes special 747 exhibits and programs.

Live NASA TV Coverage of Mars Science Laboratory Launch
Friday, Nov. 25, 7:21 a.m.
The 7:21 a.m. launch of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory will be shown in the William M. Allen Theater via NASA TV. The Museum will be open for this event only at 7 a.m. The NASA TV event is free, paid admission to the galleries begins at the Museum's usual opening time of 10 a.m.

Overshadowed by the airplane, the airship - a rigid or semi-rigid balloon, powered by engines - has a colorful history. Learn about these fascinating machines and the new airship designs for the 21st century. Then design your own airship!

Seven Years in the Saturn System: The Mission of Cassini-Huygens
NASA Solar System Ambassador Dr. Ron Hobbs

July 2011 marked the seventh anniversary of the arrival of the Cassini-Huygens probe into Saturn's orbit. The mission has produced revolutionary new information about the giant planet and its retinue of more than 60 moons, as well as incredible images of this "miniature solar system." Solar System Ambassador Dr. Ron Hobbs will provide an overview of this important voyage of discovery.
Dr. Hobbs is a Museum Educator and Public Programs Assistant at The Museum of Flight, and a Solar System Ambassador for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The Solar System Ambassador program selects and trains qualified enthusiasts to "share the excitement of space exploration." Dr. Hobbs has had a life-long passion for the exploration of our universe.

Celebrating the Wright brothers' first powered flight on Dec. 17, 1903, The Museum of Flight's annual Wright Spirit Holiday event features family activities, live holiday music and Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will arrive at the Museum in a vintage de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver floatplane at 10 a.m. Wright Spirit activities are free with Museum admission.
