Mothers in the Military Topic of Oct. 20 Lecture and Book Signing

Former Naval aviator Linda Maloney shares her experiences and those of other mothers in the armed forces, with lessons for all working moms

SEATTLE, Oct. 2, 2012--On Oct. 20, former Naval aviator Linda Maloney will share the stories and photographs from her book "Military Fly Moms - Sharing Memories, Building Legacies, Inspiring Hope." Maloney is one of the first women in U.S. history to join a combat military flight squadron. She is also the first female Naval aviator to have a baby while on active duty. Her experiences as a mother in the military inspired her to write her book and also become a motivational speaker for women facing the challenges of career and motherhood. Maloney's 2 p.m. lecture is free with admission to the Museum. A booking signing in the Museum lobby follows the program, and it is free for all.

The book is a coffee table-style collection of inspiring true stories of women who shared the same two dreams--becoming military aviators, and being moms. Maloney interviewed more than 100 women from every military service. They tell of their paths to the military and flying, combat experiences, the joys of being a mom, and how to balance family and career. The stories and photographs weave a beautiful tapestry to inspire all moms and future generations to reach for their dreams.

The non-profit Museum of Flight is one of the largest independent air and space museums in the world.
