NASA flight surgeon lectures about living in space and other wild places

SEATTLE, July 13, 2015--At 1 p.m. on July 25, NASA flight surgeon David P. Reyes, MD, tells how medicine is conducted in the most extreme environments, and what medical capabilities are required for upcoming missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond. Reyes helps clear NASA astronauts for spaceflight, and has supported NASA operations in the Arctic, Antarctic and Star City, Russia. Reyes will also field questions and deliver an informal talk in the Alaska Airlines Aerospace Education Center from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Reyes has an Aerospace Medicine Fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Center in Galveston, Texas. He is also a family medicine physician, with Master's degrees in Planetary Science and Public Health. He is board certified in aerospace, preventive, and family medicine. Reyes is also devoted to research and advocacy to help people adapt to the health effects of climate change.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2015, the independent, non-profit Museum of Flight is one of the largest air and space museums in the world, serving more than 560,000 visitors annually. The Museum of Flight is located at 9404 E. Marginal Way S., Seattle, Exit 158 off Interstate 5 on Boeing Field halfway between downtown Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport. The Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults, $17 for seniors 65 and older, $17 for active military, $12 for youth 5 to 17, and free for children under 5.
