Astronomy clubs, sky watching, and special presentation by UW Prof at 6 p.m.

SEATTLE, Sept. 26--Free Thursday, Oct. 1, is Astronomy Day at The Museum of Flight, with special programs and family activities. Local science and astronomy clubs will be at the Museum to share their knowledge of the cosmos while sharing glimpses through their telescopes. Museum educators will give tours of the universe a planetarium. UW astronomy professor speaks at 6 p.m. Museum admission and programs free from 5 to 9 p.m.

Astronomy Presentation by UW Prof. Bruce Balick
The Astronomy Day special presentation, "Star Formation and Nebulae as Cosmic Science and Song," is by Prof. Bruce Balick of the University of Washington Dept. of Astronomy. Balick will discuss the origin and development of nebulae and star-nurseries. This 6 p.m. program includes a preview of composer Nan Avant's multimedia "Bijoux," which showcases some of the most spectacular nebulae ever discovered.

The Sights and Sounds of the Cosmos on Oct. 17
Astronomy continues on Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. with "The Origin of the Universe and Everything In It." Dr. Matt McQuinn of the UW Department of Astronomy, and composer Glenna Burmer will look at the science and art of the cosmos. McQuinn provides his insights into the universe, while Burmer discusses her musical and visual interpretation of the 13.8-billion-year history of our universe, exploring the process that composers and filmmakers use to bridge science and art.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2015, the independent, non-profit Museum of Flight is one of the largest air and space museums in the world, serving more than 560,000 visitors annually. The Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults, $17 for seniors 65 and older, $17 for active military, $12 for youth 5 to 17, and free for children under 5.
