SEATTLE, March 22, 2024—The Museum brings back its Spacesuit Design Challenge, a seriously frivolous contest for futuristic fashionistas. Designers may dare to take inspiration from sci-fi to hi-tech to address the most pressing question for all space travelers: What Will We Wear in Space?!

Not Just for Kids!

Sketches Due April 14

The Challenge is open to ages 5 to adult, and entrants must design and build an original, handmade spacesuit that the designer can wear in the Museum's fashion show. The top twenty spacesuit designs will be showcased in a fashion show during the Museum’s Sally’s Day festivities on June 15, and the four winning designs will be showcased at the flashy Fashion in Flight event at the Museum on Nov. 2. The countdown has begun—the deadline to submit a design for the contest is April 14, then the selected designers will have until June 15 to build their creation (almost 2 months, easy!).

Celebrity Judges!

The on-site judges for the Sally’s Day Top 20 Fashion Show are Amity Addrisi, Host of New Day Northwest on King5 TV; Vickie Kloeris, NASA Food Scientist and author of Space Bites: Reflections of a NASA Food Scientist; and Tony Vincente, CEO and Fashion Designer for Rossario George.
